The list below has many surprises, because brand images, developed as a result of advertising and aggressive marketing, may not correspond to the actual composition of the best super premium dry dog food. And not only to him, but also to the generally accepted, but nowhere enshrined classification of feed grades.
What is the best super premium dog food?
Cat and dog owners, when talking about the quality of food, very often use class definitions. The same terms are used by veterinarians, breeders, pet store clerks and other professionals in the pet industry.

Although feed classes have become firmly established, these definitions are very arbitrary. The industry has no standards defining “class” of food and its division into “super-premium”, “premium“, “economy” and others, not only in our country, but all over the world. No manufacturer is required to clearly indicate the class of food on the packaging or the official website, and most do not.
And you certainly can’t find food anywhere that says “economy class” on the package. It turns out that the same product public opinion refers to different classes – it all depends on private opinion or personal interest, for example, online stores or the manufacturers themselves. This is how myths about classes of food are born – let’s see if there is much truth in them.

Myths and Truths about dog Food Grades
Many believe that if the product is called “superpremium“, it is of excellent quality, and if “economy”, it leaves much to be desired. This is a misconception!
The class of food does not mean that its ingredients have any particular quality – high or low!
We do not divide foods into classes in our ratings. The scores that different brands of food receive have nothing to do with this well-known but highly inaccurate classification.

We studied dry dog food from 100 different brands, focusing not on the marketing messages of the manufacturers on the package, but only on the list of ingredients in the composition.
As a result, it turned out that many foods that manufacturers and sellers classify as “super-premium”, “holistic”, “ultra-premium” are not leaders in the CPP rating.
In order to clearly show this to you, we have divided all brands into five categories:
- “elite in the bowl” (average score of 41 to 55);
- “B-plus” (average score of 31 to 40);
- “Solid Average” (average score of 21 to 30);
- “Could be better” (average score 11 to 20);
- “All sad” (average score from 1 to 10).
Each brand’s average score is derived from examining the formulations of those specific dry dog foods we processed from user requests in 2017. For your convenience, brands are listed in descending order – from the highest average score to the lowest. We also suggested that you compare the average score in the CPP rating to the grade assigned to a particular brand online.

What about canned foods?
When processing user submissions, we strive for quality, not quantity. For 2017, the site has featured descriptions and ratings of canned foods from more than 40 different brands. On the one hand, this is a lot, but on the other hand, for full-fledged statistics we have not yet studied enough types of canned food of each brand.
Therefore, for now we limited ourselves to dry dog food statistics. In 2018, we will pay close attention to canned foods, and we promise to prepare a separate summary of the leaders and outsiders.
